Milwaukee is one win away from its first World Series title.

The Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night at Tropicana Field. The victory extends their winning streak to eight games, tying the single postseason record. Tampa Bay falls behind 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.

The game turned in the fifth inning. Milwaukee scored eight runs to build a 3-0 lead. The team hit seven straight balls in that inning, all with two outs. This marks the first time in World Series history a team has scored eight two-out runs in one frame.

Jackson Chourio opened the rally with a single. He stole second base shortly after. The Brewers manager, Pat Murphy, noted that Chourio has eight hits in three series games. Chourio finished the night 4-for-5 with a double. At 22, he became the second-youngest player to record four hits and a stolen base in a World Series game.

Brice Turang contributed to the scoring surge. His two-run single came off a ball that bounced off shortstop Taylor Walls' glove. Turang finished 3-for-5. William Contreras also went 3-for-5 as the team recorded 16 total hits.

Robert Gasser started for Milwaukee. The rookie left-hander pitched one-hit ball for six innings. He faced the minimum 18 batters. This makes him the first starter to face the minimum through six innings of a World Series game since Curt Schilling in 2001. Gasser allowed one run on a line-drive single to Yandy Diaz in the first inning. He retired the next 14 batters before a walk to Victor Mesa Jr. in the sixth.

Tampa Bay relied on Freddy Peralta to start. The ALCS MVP gave up five runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. Rays manager Kevin Cash said Peralta was out of sync. The Rays made defensive and baserunning errors in the first two games of the series. They now face a historic deficit, as only the 2004 Boston Red Sox have come back from a 3-0 hole in a best-of-seven postseason series.

The atmosphere at Tropicana Field was intense. A sellout crowd of 40,388 watched the game. Many Brewers fans cheered from behind the visitors' dugout. Gasser said he appreciated the support on the road. He noted that having 20,000 people behind them changed the dynamic of the game.

Brandon Woodruff pitched the ninth inning for Milwaukee. He allowed one run and two hits. It was his first appearance in three and a half months after recovering from a shoulder injury. The Brewers have won 103 games this season, the most in the majors. They swept the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.

The Rays led the American League with 98 wins. They swept the Yankees in the Division Series and beat the Guardians in six games in the ALCS. They have never won a World Series in their 29 seasons of play. Their previous appearances ended in losses to the Phillies in 2008 and the Dodgers in 2020.

Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. Griffin Jax will start for Tampa Bay. The Brewers have not announced their starter. If Milwaukee wins, they will become the first team to sweep an LCS and a World Series since the Cincinnati Reds in 1976.
