Jay-Z will headline the halftime show for the 2027 Super Bowl, the NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced on Monday. The performance is scheduled for February 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The announcement followed several days of industry speculation about the entertainer's involvement. The promotional material featured the artist seated in the stadium surrounded by goats, accompanied by the caption, "GOAT's out of the bag." This marks his return to the specific venue where he concluded his recent "Jay-Z 30" concert tour over the weekend. That tour began with three shows at Yankee Stadium in New York, moved to London, and finished in Southern California.
Roc Nation has served as an advisor and producer for the league's entertainment presentations since 2019. In 2019, Jay-Z told NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, "If this is about me performing at the Super Bowl, then we can just end this conversation now." Seven years later, the producer has accepted the role of lead performer.
Shawn Carter, born in 1969, has accumulated 25 Grammy Awards and 89 nominations, the second-highest nomination count in history behind his wife, Beyonce. His discography includes albums such as "Reasonable Doubt," "The Blueprint," and "The Black Album." His 1996 debut album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame last year.
Beyond music, his career includes co-founding Roc-A-Fella Records and establishing Roc Nation in 2008. The latter operates as an entertainment company managing artists and athletes. He became the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017 and joined the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
The announcement highlights the continued integration of major hip-hop figures into the league's prime-time broadcast slot. Previous halftime headliners have included Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, and The Weeknd.
The next scheduled event for the franchise is the Super Bowl itself, which will take place in February 2027. The announcement serves as the first major entertainment reveal for that edition of the championship game.
