The artificial intelligence sector is preparing for a major capital event as Anthropic seeks to sell its shares to the public for the first time. The San Francisco-based company filed regulatory documents on Monday for a listing that aims to raise up to 100 billion US dollars.
The proposed offering would eclipse the previous record for an initial public offering. In June, SpaceX raised 86 billion US dollars in its own public debut. Anthropic’s filing positions the company to list on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol ANT. The stock is expected to begin trading next month.
The financial details in the 335-page document reveal rapid revenue growth but substantial deficits. Anthropic reported a net loss of 80.7 billion US dollars for the first half of 2026. That figure is a sharp increase from the 13 billion US dollars in losses reported during the same period in 2025.
Investors are valuing the company at a premium despite these losses. Private investors valued Anthropic at 965 billion US dollars earlier this year. Current reports suggest the final valuation could reach 1.5 trillion US dollars or 2 trillion US dollars. At the lower estimate, the company would rank among the most valuable public entities, comparable to Tesla.
The IPO proceeds are intended to accelerate the company's expansion. The final offering price and total amount raised remain undetermined. If the transaction closes at the higher end of the valuation range, the deal would significantly increase the personal wealth of CEO Dario Amodei and his co-founder and sister, Daniela Amodei.
This move places Anthropic ahead of its rival, OpenAI, in the public markets. Both companies are expected to launch major stock offerings in the near future. The filing comes weeks after Dario Amodei published an essay arguing for a slower pace in developing advanced AI models.
The company stated in its regulatory filing that the proceeds will support its operational growth. The document does not specify a final price per share. The listing marks the first time the five-year-old startup has offered equity to public investors.
